I love your descriptions, from the green face to the nervous energy, I felt your angst and excitement each stop f the way. I am so glad you have been happily married. You are among the lucky few. And what a great story to tell your kids. Thanks so much for sharing!

My darling husband of twenty nine years, as my boyfriend, planned a wonderful, romantic day to propose. You have to understand, that among all of his wonderful qualities, romance is not his strong point. We spent the afternoon strolling on the beach, a place that I love almost as much as he hates. We visited my grandmother and spent time strolling through a flea market, another pursuit upon whose values as a pleasurable activity can be debated between us. Then, as we approached the cloverleaf to go from the Cross Island to the LIE and back to my home,my loving boyfriend surprised me by turning, left, towards the Bronx! There was only one possible reason for him to turn in that direction, a wonderful Kosher restaurant in Pelham County….my heart started to race, if he was taking me there, without any prior notification, it must be that he was planning to propose! My pulse quickened as we approached the restaurant. I could barely read the menu because I was so excited. So excited, that I didn't notice that his complexion was turning green. When our main course arrived, he looked at it and said, “Honey, I really am not hungry, but go ahead and eat…” I was starved, but out of mercy for him agreed to have the waiter wrap our meals. We stepped outside, he took my hand, and the little tape in my head said “no, jerk, it would be much nicer in the restaurant, in the romantic setting, not out here on the street..NO!”, but as I was preparing myself for the most romantic question any girl can be asked, he released my hand rapidly and said “excuse me, I think I am going to be sick!”. Immediately I took the blame upon myself, “idiot” I said, “you thought he was nervous to propose, but no, he wanted out of there because he is going to VOMIT!”. In all fairness, I should explain, he had just returned from a very short 5 day trip to Israel, and the jetlag must have interfered with his digestive system, but what girl expects a diamond and gets a gem like I did?! He asked if we minded if he took me home and asked if I was free the following (Monday) night. We NEVER dated on week nights, so I KNEW that he was coming over to propose, and this knowledge made me a nervous wreck. I asked advice of everyone that I could, and they all said "follow your heart". What kind of dumb answer is that?! When he did propose (parked at a hydrant in front of my parents' house) I automatically said "yes" but felt anything but happy. I was nervous, confused, uncertain...We walked in the house to announce our engagement to my parents. My father was on the phone with his mom, and my mom was pushing him to hang up quickly. She said "the kids have something important to tell us" He said "well I think that my mother is having a stroke, what do you have to say that is so important?" Luckily, my grandmother was fine, and thank G-d, the wedding and marriage have proven MUCH better than the engagement!

Can't wait to hear your proposal story, Mal!
Yeah, we had a fun proposal. I made sure. I wanted to be able to tell it again and again. The heat is on when you are a comedian and an artist.
We could have been even more over the top. Probably today I would be even more creative!
Thanks for sharing your fun stories about attracting proposals. Go write that story. I can't wait to read it!
And HARO does rock. I highly recommend it to people all the time.

I had no idea! This was actually one of my story ideas for a Wedding magazine (Where to pop the question). I'll have to tell you in person how Jeff and I proposed to each other while looking at model homes in Houston - but I can tell you that for awhile we seemed to attract couples who were getting engaged. One time, we sat next to a young couple at Le Bar Bat in NYC and he proposed to her right there. (They were so close, our tables for two were touching). Another time, we were at the restaurant with windows overlooking Rockerfeller Center skating rink - at a ground-level window table. While we ate, we watched as droves of people left the ice until only two were left. The guy got down on his knee and asked his skater girl to marry him. Everyone standing around the rim of the rink started applauding. The girl cried and accepted. It was such a sweet NY thing to do. I've heard of having a dolphin deliver the engagement ring at Dolphin Quest in Florida. And of rings in champagne glasses. Thanks for sharing about you and "George." By the way - HARO ROCKS! I use it all the time (as a journalist).
