Virtual Parties, No Morning-After Hangovers

by Sandy Weiner on December 4, 2009

DownloadedFileVirtual reality continues to fascinate me. I have been skyping a few people instead of talking on the phone, and the experience is so much richer. I love seeing the facial expressions, and I was even able to see a coat someone had gotten for me. Cool! Yesterday, I attended my second annual virtual Holiday Party, along with four other of my virtual friends. The party was thrown by two coaches whom I have never met, Kathy Loh and Jennifer Lee, wonderful co-leaders of the Creative Artists/Coaches niche on my coaching school’s online network. I have been a member for over a year, and have even hosted one of the monthly phone calls. The party was so much fun, that I wanted to share one of the things we did that you might enjoy.

We were all asked to bring a favorite quote, and I shared three of my favorite creativity quotes:

1) “The chief enemy of creativity is good taste” by Pablo Picasso

2) “A good dancer or musician allows the music to take over, becomes absorbed in the complex harmonies and tempos, and is the servant of the materials at hand. The secret of a soul-based life is to allow someone or something other than the usual self to be in charge.” by Thomas Moore, The Original Self

3) “The real voyage consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.” by Marcel Proust

At the end of our party, after much laughter, prayers, quotes, and warmth, we played a little game.

Jennifer led us in writing a cinquain, which is a short poem that follows this structure:

The first line is one word (a noun/the topic)

The second line is two words (2 adjectives that describe the first word)

The third line is three action words (3 -ly adverbs or –ing verbs)

The fourth line is four words to express a feeling (a 4 word phrase)

The last line is one word (a synonym or adjective that refers to the first word)

Here’s mine:

Trees

Rooted, growing

Reaching, coloring, breaking

Loving, embracing, protective, kind

Branchy

Will you share a cinquain or your favorite quote with me? Happy holiday month!

What a wonderful way to connect!
I love the idea behind it, thanks for sharing.
Maybe one day we can all have a virtual party of our own, right here. :)
  • Sharyn,

Your poem is lovely and your quotes are inspirational, especially the one you wrote.

    Water

    Wet, clear

    Running, flowing

    Babbling brook feels calm

    my favorite quotes are:
Life ia a voyage in which we choose neithr vessel nor weather. But much can be done in the management of the sails and the guidance of the helm.
    (I don't know the author)

With a good book in your hand and a song in your heart you will never be alone.
