Art Every Day Month

by Sandy Weiner on November 1, 2009

PB010023I have made a commitment to create original art throughout the month of November. I first heard about the Art Every Day Challenge and  Leah Piken Kolidas through the coaching school where I got my certification. As a member of the Creative Artists Niche of life coaches, I listened in on a tele-conference hosted by Leah exactly a year ago to launch Art Every Day month. Well, a year later, I am finally motivated to be accountable to my creations, and today I launch my first painting.

It is a watercolor that I began in the summer as a demo to my camp class. I taught them how to paint their Hebrew names in watercolor, and introduced some cool watercolor techniques, such as using salt to create patterns. I did the painting in August and wanted to embellish it for my first entry. My Hebrew name, Shifrah, means to beautify, repair and rebuild. I used to hate it and now I think it suits me perfectly, so I wanted to paint it. You can read more about my Hebrew name here.

I would love to hear your thoughts about this painting. And if you are so inclined, visit Leah’s website and sign up for the Art Every Day challenge. Let me know if you do. I would love to see what you create.

  • Linda,
Thanks for visiting my blog and for your enthusiastic comments. Reminds me that I need to buckle down for day two. I don't know how we can keep up creating every day, but I am sure we'll do it. I look forward to seeing your work, too!

    Debbie,
Your acknowledgment touched my heart. Thank you for that and for the positive feedback on my art. Yes, the black background is also watercolor. The whole piece is, except for the thin outline around the letters. Why don't you sign up for Art Every Day Month? You could submit in any medium. I would love to see your work posted on the blog. Go for it!

Beautiful - you beautify, repair, and rebuild the world in so many ways! Love the colors and the squiggly spirals. Is the black background watercolor, too?

Beautiful watercolor...wow, the details are so cool! I just started with AEDM and looking forward to seeing everyone's work! :P
  • Ana,
Thanks for the your acute observation of me as an artist. Yes, you are spot on that color is a big part of who I am, and that my Hebrew name does speak to the essence of who I am. I agree, our names are a significant insight into our souls. I look forward to seeing your posts.

    Sam,
Thanks for noticing the color and texture of my painting.

    Leah,
Thanks for hosting this wonderful program. And thank you for taking the time to comment on my painting with such specific comments as to the nature of what I did. It encourages me to create every day!

  • Oh, this is so lovely, Sandy! What a gorgeous meaning to your name and a great idea to express it in paint!
  • Sam
It's lovely. I love all the colours and the texture to the colour :-)

    Dear Shivra (Sandy),

Congragulations to you on this launch of your first piece of work, which is most delicate and significant work of art, filled with joy and colour. I can pick up that the tie in with your name through the hebrew and the colour is a great part of you. It's such a beautiful meaning, your name. :) Are names are all reflections of ourselfs, and are put there for a purpose-I think you know now why.

I am also taking part in Art Every Day Month, and I think it is a wonderful inspiration to engage in our inner selfs.

I look forward to seeing more of you.

    Kind Wishes

    xx

    Ana
